What is Pilates? Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. Pilates is one of the most popular exercise systems in the country because it is an adaptable method that is safe and challenging for a person at any level or ability. What are the benefits of Piates? If Pilates exercises are done consciously and regulary (2-3 times a week) you would be able to strengthen your body and change old postural habits. Pilates also provides the practitioner with self-knowledge and information through movement and breathing habits and by shedding light on muscular tendencies and sources of pain. Most importantly, Pilates teaches consciousness and awareness that can be applied to daily life. Benefits of Pilates include centering, control, flow, conscious breathing, precision, and concentration. What is Diana Garcia-Snyder's backgrownd and experience? Diana Garcia-Snyder discovered Pilates as a way to keep herself strong and injury-free so that she could continue her work as a dancer and teaching artist. She completed her mat Pilates teacher training in Chicago in 2003 and furthered her studies in Authentic Pilates with Carla Barragán in Seattle in 2005. She received her full Pilates certification at Vitality Pilates, and has been a yoga practioner for 16 years. Additionally, Diana’s more than 20 years of dance training give her an expert eye for movement. Her yoga background allows her to integrate effective yoga stretches into her client’s workouts. She is a patient and thoughtful instructor and enjoys working with beginners, prenatal and post-partum moms, people who work for long hours at their desks, as well as more advanced clients such as dancers and athletes. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance Education and Choreography from the University of Washington, a BFA in Graphic Design, and a professional ballet degree from the Royal Academy of Dancing in Mexico and England. She is the co-founder of DAIPAN Butoh Collective and enjoys collaborating with artist of many disciplines to create solo dances that integrate Western and Eastern forms of dance. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ PRIVATE PILATES sessions SOMA YOGA (Ballard) CONSCIOUS BODY PILATES (Madrona) _________________________________________________________ MAT PILATES classes Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm (Fall series: September 8-29, 2010) |
